
Joey joined the Queen City News and Charlotte Sports Live team as a sports anchor and reporter in July 2024. Joey comes to Charlotte after previously spending two years for the NBC affiliate WILX-TV in Lansing, Michigan, where he covered Michigan State University and University of Michigan athletics, as well as major Detroit professional sports, including the Detroit Lions’ NFC Championship run in 2023.
Before that, Joey was the weekend sports anchor in Marquette, Michigan at NBC affiliate WLUC-TV6, after working full time for two years at ESPN as a Production Assistant and Content Associate, where he worked regularly on studio shows such as SportsCenter, Get Up! and much more.
Joey graduated from Michigan State University in May 2019, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, after primarily covering Michigan State football and basketball, including the Spartans’ 2019 Final Four run to Minneapolis. Joey was also the lead sports anchor for the award-winning student television show “Focal Point” in addition to handling radio play-by-by duties for MSU athletics for the award-winning student radio station “Impact 88.9 FM.”
In his spare time, Joey enjoys playing video games, working out, and playing a wide variety of sports. A Grand Rapids, Michigan native, Joey is making his first appearance in Charlotte and is excited to explore everything the Carolinas have to offer and is looking forward to telling the stories of local athletes and teams.
